Friends, Laughter, Looks

Last night we had dinner with some long-time friends. They were down here for a few days. Our friendship goes way back, to when our kids were little. We’ve always been close, and though we are physically in different areas of the country now, when the opportunity presents itself, we get together. And…when we do, we usually just pick right up like we just saw them yesterday.

Well, last night was no exception. We gathered at our local Italian restaurant, which is kind of like “Cheers”, you know, everybody knows your name. Anyway, it was a Saturday night, in season, and as you can imagine the place was packed. We made our way into the booth and it wasn’t long before the six of us were in excited conversation. We played remember when, we learned about the latest events in our lives, and we laughed. My goodness, we laughed. Ya, we were having to shush each other many times, as we were loud enough to get looks from other patrons 🙂 .

I’ve heard that it takes less muscles to smile than it does to frown. The saying laughter is the best medicine, well I think there is some truth to that. I also believe that relationships, friendships, they are the core of who we are. The first relationship being with Father of course, then our family, then our friends. Without those relationships, those bonds to each other, our lives would be pretty empty.

Father blessed us last night, well he blessed us many years ago with these friends. The people He brings into our lives, well I don’t think that is by accident. He brings the opportunities and it’s up to us to cultivate the relationship. And…if we do it right, our lives can be filled with love and support to help carry us through difficult times.

So friends, let’s give thanks for relationships. Let’s continue to nurture and strengthen them, and hey, let’s reconnect to laugh and even get some looks from others.

Have a great day everyone, and remember, Father is with us always, that is the first and truest relationship we have.

Psalm 126:2
Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord had done great things for them”.
