When You Don’t Have Words

I’m sure we’ve all been in those situations when a family member, friend, or coworker tells you something and you just don’t have words to respond. You hear sad news, or an unbelievable story, someone says something mean, you get what I’m saying, the words you hear just leave you speechless. What happens when you just don’t have words?

Yesterday I was talking with a friend at work and we discussed this very thing. Situations where you are just not sure what to say. We both agreed that perhaps the best way to handle things was to simply give the person a hug 🙂 . The power of touch is real, and it can do many things, diffuse a situation, convey love, ease pain, and show you care. Just think of those times when your children were young, when they hurt themselves playing or when they were sick, you hugged and held them and they almost instantly felt better. Why do we think when we become adults those hugs aren’t needed? The simple act of touching another, a pat on the back, a touch of the shoulder, holding a hand, it is so powerful, we need to do more of it. We are human beings and we need that contact.

Think about all of the healing that Jesus did. In almost every case, He touched. It wasn’t long before people were following Him and wanted to just touch Him. We too can give healing power to others by touching. Sometimes I don’t think we realize how much we can help others by showing that loving spirit and compassion through the power of touch. Jesus said, “Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do”.

We can make a difference in the lives of those around us. When we don’t have the words, or even when we do, let us use the power of touch to show the love that Father so freely gives to us. Have a great day friends, show someone you care today 🙂 .

Luke 6:19
And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.
