Walking in the Wilderness

Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. During this time of Lent, we observe the 40 days that Jesus spent in the wilderness fasting and being tested by satan. It’s hard to imagine all the ways that He was tempted and tested, yet Jesus denied satan at every step, He did not sin.

We can all certainly relate to what Jesus went through. We are tested and tempted every day, unfortunately, we have a little more difficulty overcoming those tests. I think these 40 days give us the opportunity to walk with Jesus in the wilderness. These days help us to focus even more on our relationship with Him. It’s an opportunity to reflect and open our hearts to Him and ask for forgiveness. It’s an opportunity to become stronger so that we too can deny satan when those temptations come.

Many times during Lent I give up something, you know like chocolate or sweets, as a way of experiencing temptation. Ya, usually about halfway in I’m craving a snickers bar and really fighting not to have one 🙂 . This year though, I just want to focus on spending time with Jesus, walking with him through the wilderness. I want to know Him more, I want to allow myself to be vulnerable with Him, share all my struggles, my challenges, and the good things that happen. I want to grow stronger with Him so that when the temptations come, when satan tests, I want to be able to deny and cast him back into his nasty hole.

Friends, whether you participate in Lent formally or not, I do encourage you to just focus on that relationship with Jesus. Take more time to walk in that wilderness with Him. You might be surprised how much stronger you become.

Have a good day everyone, and as always, thanks so much for your continued encouragement and support of this little blog 🙂 .

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.
