Saturday Service

Well, you all know that I tend to sleep in a bit on Saturdays. I guess I did, by an hour this morning πŸ™‚ . We’re up early on my favorite day of the week as we’re headed to a day filled with service and some fun tossed in.

As I’ve mentioned here in the past, there is a service organization, the Marco Patriots that does amazing work here in SW Florida, well they do amazing work in other places as well. Since moving here we’ve become more involved, and since Ian, even more so. We’ve got some volunteers helping out today setting up for our local Flags for Heroes event, sponsored by the local Rotary Club, being held on Monday. This morning we’re working with other community volunteers to set 440 American flags in the ground near our local YMCA. And…some of these flags have been sponsored to honor the volunteers of the Marco Patriots for the work they do not only in our community but in other communities across the country.

This afternoon the Patriots hold our own FUNraiser with the help of the community. We’ve got a great few hours planned with raffle prizes, some silent auction items, music, food, and ya fun! This event brings the community together, helps the Patriots continue to share their mission, “Through volunteers, the Marco Patriots seek to reignite the spirit of community through service to underserved communities affected by disasters and crises”, and raises funds towards that mission. Hard to believe we are just a few months away from the start of hurricane season. We all know that the more we do now to prepare and educate the community about being prepared, the better we will all be πŸ™‚ .

So today we’ll spend the day meeting some awesome volunteers, honor some heroes, and continue to strive to help others. Service to our communities, it really is rewarding work, and it’s work that Father asks us to do.

Have a great Saturday friends, and hey, if you’re in the line at Dunkin or Starbucks today, why not pay it forward, buy a cup of coffee for the person in line behind you. A little community service for each of us today πŸ™‚ .
