Ya, We Are Accountable

My husband and I were having a conversation last night while dinner was in the oven. We’ve been so busy these days that it seems like this is the best time for us to chat. We got onto the subject of making mistakes in our lives which grew into a bigger discussion that is too much for this little blog this morning. Anyway, as we were chatting I realized that Father parents us just like we parented our children.

Here’s what I mean. When our kids were little and they would inevitably get into trouble. There was usually a punishment, perhaps it was simply no TV for the evening, or being sent to their room, or they were grounded for a week, (or forever even sometimes), you all know the drill when the kids were little. The point is we were holding them accountable for what they did, we held them accountable for the choices they made. However, it didn’t change our love for them, quite the opposite actually. We held our children accountable for the mistakes, the choices they made, because we loved them, because we wanted them to understand that choices have consequences. Our job as parents is to teach our children right from wrong, to protect them from bad decisions so that they can learn and grow to be the best they can. And…to one day pass on the same to their children.

I think Father parents us in the same manner. He loves us beyond all measure, however I believe He does hold us accountable for our actions. He gives us the free will to make mistakes, and absolutely there is forgiveness when we admit we have made those mistakes. However, I do believe there is accountability that we must take and own up to. There will come a time when we see Father face to face and we’ll be asked what we did while here for the short time of this life. It will be tough if I have to admit that I didn’t do my best, that I chose to ignore the things Father has asked of me.

So friends, just a reminder that, ya, we’re accountable. The good news is that when we own up to our mistakes, Father is there to forgive, just like we forgave our children. We still have to face whatever comes of the decisions we make, however, on the other side of it, we are stronger and smarter. Father loves us friends, just like we love our children, He wants to keep us safe and see us grow. Let’s make Him proud as we do 🙂 .

Have a great day friends 🙂 .

I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.
