I was listening to a podcast the other day and the guest used a term that caught my attention, the “do tank”. I wasn’t sure I heard him correctly, but then he shared with the host what he meant. He said that his team is doing the work, they are not just sitting around thinking about what to do. It was a play on the phrase “think tank”. I totally got it at that point and realized that ya, I was part of a “do tank” as well.
I could just picture a group of people sitting in a room contemplating and pondering what to do. I’ve heard the phrase much over my long career, “we put together a think tank of members to discuss solutions”. Years ago I participated in some of those types of meetings myself. What I recall is there was indeed much discussion, sometimes it bared great fruit. However, much more often the time was lost on veering off topic discussing things that had nothing to do with the objective. The concept was great, and the people meant well, it’s just that many times, the think tank, well, that’s all it did was think.
What I’ve learned over time is you can get things done much quicker with a few who have the same goal in mind. Bring together a few, state the objective, everyone is moving on the same field in the same direction and before you know it, a solution is on the table and you’re executing.
This morning as I thought about the “do tank”, it reminded me of our relationship with Father. I truly believe that’s where he wants us to be. He’s not looking for us to sit around and think about what to do next. He wants us to execute His plan, which when you think about it is pretty simple. His plan doesn’t take a group of people to sit in a room and come up with fancy project names and detailed steps requiring many approvals. No, His plan takes just one person to start. One person to just show His love and share His grace, and before we know it, that love and grace are spreading. Ta-dah, the “do tank” in action.
This morning friends, as you’re enjoying your coffee, I just encourage you to be part of the “do tank”. It doesn’t take much, just a simple good morning to a stranger, a thank you to the cashier at the grocery store, a have a nice day to the customer on the other end of the phone. Start small and watch the “do tank” grow in action π .
Have a great day my friends, and as always, thanks for being here. Oh, and a special thanks to my friend Liz Brunson for her sunset image, the header of today’s little blog.
