Dinner & Dancing

Yesterday I spent some time with a wonderful woman. Over the past several weeks she has been planning her husband’s memorial service. He passed away several months ago and next week their family and friends will come together to honor him, celebrate his life, and say their final goodbyes.

Through this planning process, I’ve gotten to know this woman and her husband. I wish I had been able to truly know him when he was living, but I’m learning so much about him now, it’s like I did. They were married for 45 years so as you can imagine she has many stories to tell about their time together, and it’s been wonderful to hear them.

As we talked yesterday afternoon she shared with me, “One of our favorite things to do was to go out to dinner, just the two of us”. She explained that eating a meal together, “It’s a connection, a time to be together and grow closer”. She shared how their meal times together were when they discussed their business, shared their concerns, talked about their day, and made plans together. It was a special time for them.

A little while later as we were walking around the grounds she shared how this couple who had been together so long, they loved to dance. They would dance to just about any kind of music. We laughed about whether there would be dancing in Heaven, and I gave my two cents that I truly felt there would be.

I’ve learned much from this special lady. The value of hard work, the beauty of true love, the sorrow I see when she talks about missing the love of her life, and the strength she has gained by leaning into Father through it all. God was at the center of their marriage, He was at the center of all that her husband did, and He is guiding her through this process now.

Friends, take the time to enjoy the dinners and dancing with the one you love. There will come a time when you won’t be able to. Oh yes, ultimately we’ll be together to enjoy the banquets, (and the dancing) in Heaven. Until then though, let us enjoy the special moments we have together in the here and now.

Have a great day everyone 🙂 .

Psalm 30:11
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.
