Simple Beauty

One of the things you learn about when you move to Florida is the orchid plant. Not long after moving here a neighbor gave me one as a welcome gift. I had seen them up north of course but nothing like I see them here in the warm climate. I’m by no means a pro at growing these, but I have learned a few things and just by letting them “do their thing” these plants are gorgeous.

One of the common “uses” for the orchids here is to plant them in palm trees. Plant is probably not the best term there. Literally, you simply take the plant and attach it to a tree, tie it on with some moss to cover their roots, and before you know it, those orchid roots are wrapping themselves around the tree. They don’t require much attention, and they will bloom with the most stunning flowers over time.

I have a very small plant that was given to me around Christmas last year. It bloomed with one small flower and then that was it. I had the plant inside until recently when I moved it outside to my lanai next to another small orchid. It didn’t take long to notice buds appearing. This little plant just wanted some early morning sun, a little humidity to soak in, and just like that buds and now beautiful purple flowers.

As I had my morning chat with Father I looked over at the two orchids on my lanai and could not help but think about their simple beauty. A gift that Father has provided that requires little but gives much. It made me think about these lives of ours that we’ve at times made so complicated. Maybe we need to be more like my little orchids. Take in what we need and then give back the beauty inside of us.

Silly I guess, but those little orchids do have me thinking this morning about what I can be doing to brighten the day of someone. Have a great day my friends, let’s take the opportunities where we can today to make the day a little brighter for the people we meet šŸ™‚ .

Isaiah 33:17
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
