Fried Chicken & Perry Mason

Now that is an interesting title for a blog post. I’m guessing you are wondering where the heck this one came from right? It really is kind of funny how it came to be. Last night my husband and I were driving home from work. I realized I didn’t take anything out for dinner so we were discussing what to do. The weather was not so good, rain was on the way so I knew we wouldn’t be grilling, which required a little more thought.

We pulled up to a stop light next to one of our larger Publix stores. They just happen to have some the best fried chicken in town. As we came to a stop I mentioned heading into the store to grab some fried chicken, which we rarely eat. It’s not that we don’t enjoy it, it’s the mess that requires the clean up that is the issue. Anyway, as we sat at the light, (which just happens to be crazy long), my husband started down memory lane. He proceeded to tell me about this amazing little place where he grew up that made the best fried chicken he had ever eaten. I remember the place when we were dating, I experienced it. His parents had a routine where every Sunday night they would order from this place and I recall it was very good.

Anyway, as I said he went down memory lane talking about the chicken and the crinkle french fries, then the coleslaw, it was fun to watch. Well, that was it, fried chicken it was. We stopped in and grabbed what we needed from the deli, which had a line at the fried chicken, just saying 🙂 . We headed home and my husband was like a little kid when he exclaimed, “Ah, fried chicken in front of Perry Mason, just like when I was a kid”. We’ve recently been watching old episodes of Perry Mason in the evening, which have been very entertaining. So there you have it, the title of today’s little blog.

Now how does all of this fit into my usual theme of seeing Father through events like sunrises and sunsets? I’m not sure it does, however, I think Father gives us times like these to remember those special memories in our lives. To see my husband excited like he was, to see him recall the special times, it made my heart happy. There were times in our past when the simpleness of just being together as a family, over fried chicken, well, it shows that we didn’t need much to be content.

Just a fun little story for today’s little blog. Friends, I hope the day brings an opportunity for you to take a trip down memory lane. Remember those special times that make you smile, and hey, maybe even take the time to recreate them. Have a great day everyone 🙂 .

Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.
