Yesterday morning I went to the gym as I usually do. It’s always fun trying to get a parking space as there is a class before mine. I had to park a little further away than usual, and I noticed that there was someone in the car across from me. I hopped out of the car and made my way to the door. I was relieved when I walked in and realized that my class was still all standing in the lobby, the class before ours was just wrapping up. As I made my way to put my keys on the board I heard the woman at the check-in desk ask the person that had come in behind me his name, (she was checking him in). I guess the guy had gotten out of his car and I didn’t even realize it, he came in the door when I did.
The woman asked if his name was Joe, (I’m using a different name here, you’ll understand why in a bit). When I heard her say his name, I turned around to look and confirm that it was the man I thought. You see he actually has a more unique name, one that isn’t heard often, so it made me turn. “Joe”, has been a member of our gym for as long as I have, and he’s actually a friend I know from church. He hasn’t been coming for many, many months. I walked over to him put my hand on his shoulder and said, “It is you, my gosh it’s so great to see you, how are you feeling?”.
You see, Joe is a young man, with young kids, and Joe is a cancer survivor. Over the past six or so months he has had two major surgeries and all of the treatment that goes along with fighting cancer. He’s traveled to specialty hospitals in other cities to have those surgeries. His wife and parents have been by his side every step of the way, and yesterday he made his way back to our little gym.
So, when I asked how he was feeling he replied, “I’m feeling good”. It’s funny because he’s always been cleanly shaven, and he now has a beard and a little longer hair. I could also tell that the months have reduced his muscle mass and he’s lost a little weight. “I’m here to start rebuilding my strength and stamina”. Throughout the workout I noticed how he took his time lifting the weights and adjusting as he needed. He made it through that workout and commented that he’d probably be sore tomorrow.
As I watched “Joe” yesterday I realized that the challenges I have in my life really do pale in comparison. This man battled cancer and beat it and is living life, just happy to be coming to the gym. Father stepped in yesterday to show me a couple of things; first He showed me that my challenges, though I may feel they are difficult, there are bigger ones out there. Secondly, He showed me that when we believe and trust in Him, He can heal anything.
So friends, whatever we may be going through, let’s keep Father in the middle of it all. He and He alone can right all things. Have a great day my friends, may it be filled with answered prayers π .
I’m going to take a little break from the little blog for the weekend. I’ll be back here on Monday morning. Have a great weekend everyone!
p.s. Thanks to my friend Beth Argeros for the beautiful sunset picture, and the cover of today’s little blog.
Psalm 103:2-3
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases.
