Foundations

Last Friday I was at the gym for my usual morning class. I really like the instructor on Fridays. He makes a point of going around the room through the entire class, encouraging, correcting, adjusting, and suggesting ways to improve the techniques we are learning. Most of the people in my 6:00 a.m. class are regulars. We’ve all been at this gym for a while and we pretty much know the drill when it comes to the various exercises each day.

On this particular Friday though, my coach gave me a compliment that meant so much. He said to me about 3/4 of the way into the class, “Your form is always exceptional. I want to tell everyone in the class, watch Kim, and then do the exercise. You always take time to do the moves correctly and then you challenge yourself”. I told him that I had an excellent teacher, thinking back to my awesome coach for many, many years. You can read more about my Chix family in this post. He simply replied, “It shows indeed”. I sent a message to my Chix group and shared what had happened, thanking my long-time coach for always helping us to build a firm foundation every class.

As I thought about today’s little blog, I thought about this exchange from my Friday workout. It’s so important for us to have a solid foundation to overcome the challenges that come our way in this life. If we are grounded solidly in our Faith in Father, if we have a foundation of trust in Him, if we know that He is with us, then yes, we can overcome whatever satan tries to throw our way. Our relationship with Christ is not a given, it’s a relationship that grows over time, and it’s a relationship, that when nurtured and built upon, becomes the strongest relationship we will ever have.

A friend of mine sent me a text last night. She was watching the sunset and there was a couple who was sitting in front of her on the beach. They were obviously having a special evening and we both suspected that it might be a proposal. Yes, we hope she said yes, but more importantly if so, I hope that last night was the beginning of a very firm foundation. I hope that Father is at the center of their relationship and I hope He guides and leads them into the wonderful world of marriage.

Friends, no matter what stage of life we find ourselves in, I know that we are stronger because of the rock of Faith we have built our lives on. We have a solid foundation of having Christ in our lives, and that foundation can overcome any storm that comes our way. Be firm in your belief, unrelenting in your faith, and be powerful in your love of Father, and know that He will never leave us!

1 Corinthians 3:11
For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
