It’s America

Yesterday my husband and I took a ride to a farm about an hour from us. I’ve heard about it, and follow them on social media. Each day the owner does a check-in from the farm. She’ll show the chickens running around, the sheep, the cattle, you get the idea. Recently she has showcased the small bakery they have, and even the “cafe” they open on the weekends. So I wanted to make a trip and check it out, support the local farmer, and purchase meat and eggs where I can feel comfortable about how they were harvested.

The drive took us out of our busy city onto “back roads”, as I would refer to them. We passed little towns, swampy areas, country homes, you get the idea. We were definitely away from the noise of the day-to-day hustle and bustle of a larger city. I noticed something as we drove through, regardless of the small town or area, American flags were flying. There were churches, small ones, all along the way. There was a mix of people in these towns, white, black, brown, men, women, kids. Sitting outside shops, working in their business, picking veggies from fields, selling produce at a little stand on the side of the road, people were “doing”, and they were living side by side.

When we got to the farm and wandered inside, the sweetest woman greeted us. We decided to grab a bite to eat and she explained how the process worked. She’d take our order and then run the receipt out to the trailer where they prepared our lunch. She read the menu to us and explained how wonderful everything was. We laughed and agreed to split a burger, (made with beef from the farm), and some “homemade french fries that are the best”. We told the woman we’d walk our receipt to the trailer as she waited on the next group that had come in.

We had a seat at a picnic table, and I realized that the woman at the next table was a familiar face. Yes, she was the owner who I see on social media each morning. As we waited for our lunch, she filled us in on the farm. They are licensed to butcher all their livestock, the only farm like it in the state. We chatted like we’d known her forever. The owners were just wonderfully nice people! Our lunch came, it was amazing! After we finished, we made our way back to the shop where we purchased some meats and eggs. We said our goodbyes and headed back down the gravel road to head home.

I realized this morning as I sat down to write this little blog, recalling the day yesterday, and what we saw, ya, it’s America. We are a country where individuals, regardless of where they come from, live together, work together, and worship together. I realized that this country continues to be a beacon of hope and opportunity for so many. I realized that when you get away from the noise of the day-to-day, get out where people live and work, you see the love of Father in action. People helping people.

Friends, there is a lot of ugly in the world right now. Every day, the news shows us just that, it shows us the ugly. Well, what I saw yesterday was just the opposite. I saw the good, the kind, I saw the love of Father. I think we need to do more of this. Step away from the news, step away from the ugly, get out, and see the good that is happening each day around us. Be a part of it, shop at a local business, open a door for a stranger, smile, and say thank you to the server who makes your coffee. You get the idea. This is America friends, a country formed with God at the center.

Have a good day everyone 🙂 .
