It’s springtime and we all know what that means, there are baby animals everywhere. My husband and I have been shewing away a pair of doves from our front door area for the last few weeks. The female is trying to build a nest and has been very stubborn about it. They finally gave up last weekend. All around our neighborhood, I see baby rabbits and ducks. Last weekend at the farm we visited there were baby cows everywhere. Yes, spring brings new life for sure.
One day last week my husband and I were headed home from church, there was a car in the lane coming at us that had totally stopped in the middle of the road. We couldn’t understand why. Then as we got closer we noticed, there was a pair of ducks crossing the road. The driver of the car had gotten out and hustled the ducks across the road before they got hit. It’s not uncommon around here to see the ducks crossing the road, we have them everywhere here.
Well, yesterday morning heading to work, we came up to one of the main stop signs in our community. It’s a busy intersection and we noticed two cars stopped just after the right-hand turn we were to make. I thought there had been an accident. Two cars had their flashers on and the drivers were outside of their cars. My husband made the turn and slowly went around them. It’s then that I got a glimpse of what was happening. Yet again the drivers had stopped to help a pair of ducks, AND their little ducklings, about 6 or 7 of them I’d say, across the busy intersection. I watched as the ducks made their way onto the grass headed for the lake. They looked back at the drivers as if to say thank you. Father, mother, and all the babies were safe and sound.
I noticed as the drivers headed back to their cars smiling. I smiled too as it made me feel good to see people stop to help this little family. I smiled again when my husband and I were chatting about what had just happened. He commented how we all were “Waitin for the babies to cross”. Ah, well that’s a good blog title I thought.
Lately, I’ve been sharing here in this little blog how I see so much good happening around us despite what we hear on the news. Just these two little examples that I’ve shared about people stopping to help ducks cross the road, it truly does show the good in us humans. It shows that even the smallest acts can make a difference. Think of the difference it made in the lives of that family of ducks.
Just a little feel good story today friends. If the opportunity presents itself today, regardless of how small, take the time to make the difference. Take the time to brighten someone’s day. Take the time to wait for the babies to cross the street, or better yet, stop your car and help them across.
Have a great day my friends!
Genesis 1:21
So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
