I’m pretty sure that I shared this last year on this fun day, but hey it’s ok to share it again I think. My mom loved to watch the Derby. I think she would have loved to attend it and she would have been beautiful in one of those elegant hats and spring dresses. Oh well, enough of that.
So yes, today is Derby Day, it is as you can imagine, my favorite sporting event. I love the tradition of it. This year is an anniversary year, the 150th! The fastest two minutes in sports they call it, with some of the most amazing animals participating. Today we’ll gather with friends, enjoy some great food and maybe a mint Julep or two, and cheer on our favorite thoroughbred. However, this morning I lift a prayer for these amazing animals the the trainers that train them and the jockeys, that ride them. I pray for safety for them all and a race that allows these animals to do what is totally in their DNA to do, to run. I also lift a prayer that this event brings us together as God’s children, to enjoy a small moment together without the ugliness of the world at our backs constantly.
Heavenly Father, today, on this the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby, I just ask that you be with your creation. Be with the beautiful animals that will run today, watch over them and keep them safe from injury. Protect the riders as they guide these creatures along the path, that they may be one with their horse and together be safe. Father today, may your children come together to celebrate the beauty of your creatures and may we do so with joy in our hearts. Help us Father to be thankful for the gift your your creation and may we be reminded that we are all your children, none greater or more special than the other, we are all yours. Today Father be with your children and your creation, bring us together as one. In your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s Holy Name I pray. Amen.
Whether you are a Derby fan or not, I hope you have an amazing day my friends. And hey…maybe just take a glance at the tv around 6:57 p.m. eastern, you might just find you do have an interest š .
Genesis 1:24
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds-livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.
