I think for as long as we can probably all remember, at one time or another we’ve looked at our youth and said, “They are our future”. Admittedly that comment is not always said positively. We talk about millennials and how they are tied to electronic devices, would rather text than have a conversation, they dress differently, think differently, you get the idea.
Yesterday we celebrated Youth Sunday at our church. It’s an opportunity to congratulate them on coming to the end of another school year, and we celebrate the seniors who are heading off to college. The youth also fill all the serving roles during the service, they usher, read the lessons, serve at the altar, and even preach the sermon.
As we sat and listened to a young man, graduating this year and heading to the University of Florida next year, give his testimony on how Father has blessed him through this life, I thought to myself, “He is our future”. Though soft-spoken, the words coming straight from his heart were uplifting and gave hope for the future. This young man is grounded in faith and Father is indeed at work in his life, you can see it.
Later in the afternoon as I looked at the pictures from the day and realized how special these kids are, again I thought, “They are our future”. Our responsibility is to make sure they have a foundation of faith, a relationship with Father, and the strength to stand firm in that faith when times get tough. We owe it to our children to provide them with all the opportunities to know Jesus, and to understand the love that He has for them. Through the relationship that they build with Him, our children will be the hope for our future indeed.
Thank you Father for the gift of our youth. May we never take this precious gift for granted. May we love and nurture them and raise them to know you and all that you are.
Have a great day my friends š .
