From NICU to New Graduate

We all know how quickly time seems to fly by, especially these days. I remember as a kid just wishing my hardest for Friday to come so we could have the weekend off from school, and wishing for the school year to end so we could have the summer to play with friends. Now, I wake up and it’s Friday and I’m trying to figure out where the heck my week went. Worse than that, I wake up and wonder where some years have gone 🙂 .

Well, this weekend I’m wondering where the heck 18 years have gone. Our grandson Austin is graduating from high school on Saturday. Oh I know there are many sons and grandsons as well as daughters and granddaughters graduating this weekend and I lift prayers for each and every one of them. Father has blessed us with His most precious gift of all the gifts He gives, the gift of the “little ones”.

Yes, eighteen years ago Austin came into the world, earlier than he should have. He was a premie, and he was a little guy, (he still is), but my goodness he was a fighter. You see, not only was he a premie, he had other health problems, and at almost two weeks was airlifted to a children’s hospital for emergency surgery. I will never forget the words of the surgeon that night, “You all need to understand that he may not make it through this, he is one very sick little boy”. Well, he did make it through that surgery and through many more after that.

Austin has made it through many challenges in his short life, and through it all his fight continues. He is a special needs boy, but he never lets his Down Syndrome dissuade him from doing. Austin doesn’t know a stranger, and he quickly wins over everyone he meets. I like to say he has all of the kids, teachers, and even the principal at his high school wrapped around his little finger 🙂 .

So this weekend we will celebrate Austin. We’ll celebrate his accomplishments, but more importantly, we’ll celebrate his just being here with us. I thank Father every day for the gift of this little guy.

As a side note, I’m going to take a few days off from this little blog as we enjoy time with family. I’ll be back in a few days.

Have a wonderful weekend friends, and congratulations to all of the graduates!

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
