Kindness Carries

I’ve been recalling some instances that occurred while driving home from visiting family this past weekend. Those recollections give me hope, and help me to understand even more how Father is truly in our midst, guiding His children.

My husband and I are a little older than when we used to make those “straight drive-through” trips to Florida in our younger days. We tend to stop about every three hours or so, to fill up the car, stretch our legs, grab a drink or a bite to eat, you get the idea. If you’ve made the drive to the Sunshine State, you know it’s much safer to stop and stretch than to try and brave the traffic just to get where you are going faster.

What I’ve been recalling these last few days is what we encountered at our various stops along the way on this trip. There was the little diner where we stopped on Sunday morning. It was out of our way, but it was clean and the staff was so wonderful. I looked around the place and noticed the huge table of kids and what I’m sure were grandparents. Everyone was smiling and treating each other with such kindness. The please and thank you’s flowed as abundantly as the coffee. You could tell that people didn’t care who you were, or where you were from, you were just people like them.

On Monday we grabbed an early lunch and filled up the car. The woman at the counter who took our order was so thoughtful. You see, my husband and I tend to split meals these days, especially if we know there are going to be on the large side, and especially when we are traveling. Well the woman not only explained that what we were thinking of ordering could feed FIVE, she asked if we wanted our burger cut in half πŸ™‚ . Side note, the small fries that we got could have served five! Sorry, I digress. Anyway, she was wonderful, her kindness carried through that entire restaurant, along with her, “Y’all have a great day”. You know what else…she took the time to understand what we wanted and what we were trying to do. Then, she simply helped make it happen.

On one of our last stops for gas on Tuesday, we pulled in to a Love’s station. If you are familiar with these places you know that they are huge. They cater to the long-haul truckers, with showers, all kinds of vehicle supplies, and this one even had a parts area πŸ™‚ . Anyway, I’ve always been impressed by their employees. Their training program must be awesome. Again, the young woman behind the counter, she was smiling from ear to ear when we walked up. “How can I help you all today, what do you have there”. It was simply actually, just a couple of drinks and a few snacks. “Y’all need a bag for this, don’t ya? Sure you do, it will make it easier to carry”. I tell you, she made me smile right along with her. After paying she gave us a big, “Y’all have a wonderful day and come see us again”.

We crossed through five states on the way home. Across those states, we experienced simple kindness and genuine caring of people. We saw individuals take pride in the job they did. We saw Father at work in His children. It didn’t matter who you were, didn’t matter your race or if you were male or female, people just treated each other with kindness and caring. And you know what, everyone was smiling and they made the day better for those around them.

So contrary to what the news would have us believe, what we witnessed across this great land over the last few days, was Americans doing what they do best, helping others. People sharing God’s love in their actions, that’s what we saw.

Friends, Father is here in our midst. He is working through His children if we would but let Him. Treat others as we want to be treated, it just that simple. Share a smile, ask how you can help, hold a door for someone, let your kindness carry through all that you do.

Y’all have a great day friends πŸ™‚ .
