Sewing the Seeds

Yesterday I headed out early to spend a few hours with a group of women I’ve come to know more closely over the past year. Now, if you’ve been reading this little blog for long you know that I’m pretty partial to my Saturday mornings. I tend to get started a little later, (that’s code for I sleep in), I sit on my lanai and have coffee, spend a little more time than usual talking to Father, you get the idea. So, to rise and shine early and be out the door before 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday, that is putting in some effort, however, it is worth it to spend time with this group 🙂 .

This group of ladies meets the first Saturday of the month at our church. We sit in the parish hall and overlook the water while everyone works on their latest project. Many are doing needlework such as quilting or cross stitching, some are embroidering, some making collages, some are sketching beautiful designs, and then there is me, working on the paint-by-number picture I started four years ago, (no comments from the peanut gallery please). We call this “arts fellowship” time and it has truly become a time of fellowship and getting to know one another.

Yesterday there were many stories shared about past careers. Teachers discussing times with students they remember and have helped over the years. There are retired attorneys chemists and financial planners, a very impressive group of women indeed. However, the focus is not on their careers, the focus is on the help they provide, the nurturing, and the support for others. Many of the projects being worked on during this time are, once completed, donated to help support charities. There were seeds sewn yesterday, (yes, pun intended), showing the opportunity of using gifts and talents for Father’s work.

Of course, I’m in awe of anyone who has the skill to do some of the projects I saw yesterday. Me, I’m just painting dots on a canvas where the numbers tell me to, these talented ladies are creating beautiful works of art. I’m even more in awe of how Father brings His children, from all walks of life, together to share fellowship and find ways to help others. He’s looking to us to sow seeds, my friends, to show how together we can be one with Him. It’s not as difficult as we might think, it’s as simple as inviting a few acquaintances for coffee. Spend time and get to know your neighbor, take a moment to thank the server by name at the restaurant. Simple little ways to let others know you do care.

Have a good day my friends, and take a moment to make it great for someone else too 🙂 .

1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son, cleanses us from all sin.
