Here in SW Florida, we’ve been fighting a drought for a while. Even through the rainy season last year, we didn’t get enough to bring our water tables back to normal. Even in our little community where we have sprinklers that water plants daily, we have patches of grass that have gone dormant and have turned brown. As I drove around town doing errands yesterday I was sad to see all the brown dry areas. Our rainy season officially started a few days ago so we’ll hopefully get into a pattern of some daily afternoon showers, without having to deal with any major storms π .
Well, yesterday afternoon we got our first nice rain in like months. It came down heavy at first and then just settled into a nice easy rain. I could hear the grass and my plants gulping it up. I wished it would have just taken its time and rained through the evening but alas it stopped around dinner time.
My husband and I sat out on the lanai for dinner and I couldn’t help but notice as the clouds began to part and the slivers of blue sky peeked through, just how clear everything was. It was like someone had just cleaned a window in front of me. The dusty haze that had formed over the last month was gone and everything was so crisp, it just made you feel better.
I’ve mentioned it here before but I think having the rain come through in our lives, well, it helps to wash away the dust and the grime. The rain waters the life around us, provides nutrients, and makes everything clean. We need these times in our lives, to help us see clearer. It’s easy to get bogged down, to get stuck in the muck so to speak. It’s easy to let things cloud our vision. Then Father brings the rain, either literally or figuratively, and cleanses things. It’s not easy getting through sometimes, we get wet, maybe a little muddy, but when we get on the other side, we see things clearer.
I don’t know Father’s timing for things. Why some have to go through storms and others don’t. I only know that when the storms come, Father is right next to us helping us to weather them and get to the other side. He’s also there when the clouds part, the sun shines, and we see things clearer.
Have a good day my friends, may it be filled skies as clear as those from a new rain π .
Hebrews 6:7
For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God.
