I have mixed emotions about Father’s Day. I love celebrating my husband and all that he is to our family. He is without a doubt the best dad, Opa, and Godfather to our family. He can have a conversation about anything, he loves to get in and play with our grandkids, well our kids too for that matter, and the gentle guidance he provides is the expression of his unending love for our family.
On this day though, I miss my dad. He’s been gone almost 26 years now, but not a day goes by that I don’t think about him. My dad loved his family, and his country too. Being an immigrant at a very young age, he didn’t take anything for granted. He worked hard, did what had to be done, and made sure his kids knew the value of work and taking care of themselves. The love that he shared, especially as he got older and became a grandfather, it became more apparent in all he did. He didn’t say the words “I Love You” much, but his actions said it every day.
I know there are many of you reading this today who, like me, no longer have your fathers here with you. I guess the way I choose to look at it is Father has our dads. He holds them near until we are with them again. Until then, we’ll remember our dads today, and every day. And…I’ll thank Father for giving me the time I had with my dad, knowing that I will be with both of them one day.
So on this Father’s Day, thank you to all the dads out there for all you do for your families. You are loved and appreciated more than you will ever know. Wishing you a day filled with family, fun, and memories made.
Have a wonderful day everyone!
Psalm 103:13
As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
