In the Old Days We Used a Pencil

I’ve recently noticed a push of sorts to move technology so far into our lives that we won’t be able to step away from it. We’ll be dependent on it. I’m guessing this post will not be popular with some folks, but alas, I will share my thoughts anyway 🙂 .

Let me give a few examples of what I mean. My car, like many these days, has a backup camera. I’ve come to rely on it quite a bit, especially as I back into our garage. Well, recently that camera has been having issues. It’s been to the shop several times, and the last time, our service tech told us that they are still not sure they have it fixed. It’s a software glitch, not with the camera but with the communication to the main screen. Lovely I thought. Well, in the old days, we didn’t have backup cameras, my goodness how did we drive? Um, we used our mirrors, and we cranked our heads around. Nice concept and one I need to get back to.

Social media these days, it’s becoming more and more common to see a post about, “OK FB I don’t need your ai to search for me, can I just have my search bar back?”. When I go to any browser and search for a topic, the first thing that comes to us is a question about wanting ai to supply the answer for me. No, I’d like to find past experiences of human beings who have done things to fix the problem I have. They know what worked for them and tend to share information that can help others.

I’ve had experience with individuals who have used ai to write for them. Um…you can tell the difference because when you read what was written it doesn’t have their style, their thought process. It’s not them, it’s not original, it’s not genuine.

Back in the day, we used a pencil and paper to share our thoughts. We used mirrors to back up our cars. We used an atlas to find our way around on trips. Oh, and dare I say, we drank from a garden hose, (sorry just thought I’d toss that in).

My point today friends is, that though technology can be a huge time saver, and can be very beneficial in certain situations, so many have become so dependent on it that we don’t even think anymore. We lose connection socially, and we turn to it for an easy solution. And…in many ways, we separate from Father.

So, yes, I find myself purposely picking up a pencil and paper to jot some notes. I avoid at every turn using ai to write anything for me. I’m picking up a book to look for what I might need. I’m getting back to using my mirrors and not the camera to steer my vehicle. I’m relying on real-life experiences and skills when I face challenges to be resolved.

Have a great day my friends, and remember Father is always with us 🙂 .

p.s. Special thanks to my friend Joey Waves for the sunset picture, the cover of today’s little blog.

1 Corinthians 8:6
Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
