“Would You Like Some?”

My husband and I enjoyed vacation last week. The holiday week is always a good one to take as many are gone, and your work email doesn’t fill up so much 🙂 . As I mentioned before I signed off a week or so ago, it was a staycation of sorts. We just went about 20 minutes south and enjoyed time near the water. I had a fishing pole in my hand most days and was totally fine with that.

It’s been a while since I’ve fished every day, it’s kind of like riding a bike I guess. I even took my casting net with me, which I haven’t used for like five years, and it came in handy. I used all the bait I purchased on the first day and figured I was done for the day. Then remembered that net and brought it out of its box. A quick check of a YouTube video to refresh my memory on how to through it and I went to work. The first couple of tosses were humorous to anyone who was watching I’m sure. I got the hang of it though, and to my surprise, grabbed enough minnows to hold me over the rest of the day.

The next day, I decided to try my hand with the net before even heading to the bait shop. I figured I’d save a few bucks, and hey, I’d hone my skills at the same time. Well, even though I could see the schools of minnows everywhere I was coming up empty. Not long after starting a boat came trolling by and one of the guys asked if I was having any luck. I replied I wasn’t yet, but admittedly had just started. The group headed on by, but I noticed they stopped not far off near the next dock. Out went his casting net, it was larger than mine. Not long after, they were headed back my way. As they got closer the man called out, “Hey would you like some of these, we have plenty?” I asked him if he had just filled his supply with that one cast. He admitted he did, but said he’d been doing this a long time. “Go ahead, have some”. I handed over my bucket and he dropped over a dozen, which I said was plenty. The group wished me luck, and I thanked them again for their gift.

As they drove away I couldn’t help but think of Father in the midst of that small exchange. I thought about Jesus telling his disciples to cast their nets. I thought about the simple generosity of a total stranger, offering what they had to someone else. There were so many ways that Father was at work in that span of 15 minutes. Sometimes I think we miss Him in those moments, we don’t think they are that important. Yet it’s those simple times when I believe Father is the most active.

Let’s take the time to notice God in all our interactions. Let’s take the time to show others Father at work, in our actions, however small we may think they are. Sometimes the simplest of deeds can make the difference in someone’s day. So, don’t be afraid to ask, “Hey would you like some?”.

It’s good to be back at it with this little blog. Have a great day my friends 🙂 .

Luke 6:38
Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.
