Actions – No Words Needed

On my way home yesterday I stopped at the grocery store. Not my most favorite thing to do, especially after work, as it’s usually busier then and people aren’t in the best of moods. As I pulled into the parking lot I noticed a space pretty close to the door. I started towards it only to find the car next to the empty space had its passenger door open. I sat and waited, thinking they would just close their door. Nope, I waited and waited, and waited, realizing that the passenger was pouring a drink he had just purchased from the deli, into his travel yeti. Ok, no big deal, but then he still left the door open and began to do something else. Annoyed, I moved on, not really wanting to deal with the issue. I made my way around to the next aisle and parked almost in front of this same vehicle. As I walked by to the front of the store I noticed that he had finally closed his door and now they were eating the deli sandwiches they had just purchased. Ok, then I thought.

I made my way through the store, pretty quickly to my surprise, and headed back out to my car. The car with the two deli diners had departed, however, they had left their drink cups on the ground in the parking lot 😦 . I was almost instantly angry. The lack of disrespect shown by these two individuals was off the charts in so many ways. Their actions said so much, no words were needed.

I made my way to my car, unloaded, and then took my cart to the cart corral. As I did, I noticed all the carts around the parking lot, just left in empty spaces, or by the parking blocks, just waiting to roll into some unsuspecting car door 😦 . Again, the disrespect was clear. People couldn’t take the extra 60 seconds and deposit their cart where it safely belongs. Their actions said so much, again, no words needed.

On my way back to my car I looked down to see a card that said, “Jesus, The Way, The Truth, The Life”. I picked it up off the ground. Then there was a second one, again, I picked it up off the ground. I’m not sure how they got there but it didn’t matter, I didn’t want them lying there. Jesus’ message shouldn’t be lying on the ground for people to step on. Actions say so much, no words are needed.

As I drove out of the parking lot, I was sad, and I was disappointed in myself as well. I should have gone back and picked up the two cups on the ground, I could have taken extra time and put the additional carts in the corral, instead, I drove on, just being sad. Why do people think it’s ok to disrespect so easily? Why do we, God’s children not believe it is important to take care of this place He gave to us? This is not our property, everything here is from Father, a gift from Him. We are charged by Him to take care of it. There will come a time when He will ask us personally if we did. I hope that I will be able to answer that question with a resounding yes.

So, moving forward, I’ll make the time to pick up the cups, move the carts, and hope that my actions will speak louder than words to others. Maybe those actions will encourage others to start doing the same.

Have a good day friends, may our actions today show the respect that Father deserves.
