It’s a short little word but it carries a ton of meaning and sometimes even more emotion. Sometimes it’s a simple question, like “Why do the people in our town not use turn signals as they should?”. Oh, and if you could answer that question for me, I’d love it, sorry, I digress 🙂 . Or a simple question of your pet maybe, “Why did you just shred the new dog bed I bought for you?”. A simple question to your child, “Why didn’t you close the door behind you?”. Yes, sometimes asking why is very simple.
However, there are other times when the why questions carry much more emotion, especially when those questions are related to bad things. Bad things do happen in this world and our why questions become more desperate. We want answers from Father. “God why did you let this happen?”. We ask as if God wanted it or orchestrated the event or situation. God doesn’t wish bad things to happen and I think we all know that. I guess the question comes in when we know that Father has the power to intervene, we know He and He alone can set things right and we don’t understand when it’s not happening as we wish, or as we pray.
Well, I’m not here to answer the question of why God doesn’t intervene when bad things occur, that question is left for Him. As I thought about this question this morning though, I had a conversation with Father about it, there was something that came to mind. Instead of asking God why, maybe we should be asking Him to show us what to learn. Instead of asking why, maybe we should ask Father to show us and guide us through the situation to see clearly where He wants us to be. I know firsthand that this isn’t an easy process, and I guess that my friends is where faith comes in. We have to believe that Jesus is right there with us in all that is occurring and when we pray we must believe in our hearts fully that He will answer our prayers.
We are human and doubts will creep into our thoughts. That is the time to stop and pray for our Lord to strengthen our hearts to Him. Ask Him to drive away the doubts and the fear and to be next to us as we walk His path. He is always there.
So friends, as we go through the challenges that come our way, let’s dig deeper into our relationship with Father and ask Him to guide us through. When we get to the other side of the challenges, I’m guessing the answer to the why will be very apparent.
Prayers up friends for Emily Rea. Father, please continue to be with the rescue workers, the volunteers, and Emily’s family. Strengthen them and guide them to find her. Father, be with Emily, put a hedge of protection around her wherever she may be, help her to feel your presence and your strength. Father, bring her home safely to her family. In Jesus name, we pray, Amen.
James 1:6
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
