Lost With Father

When we moved to Florida many years ago, one of the things we gave up was a large yard. It provided so many opportunities to work with my hands; planting flowers, trimming roses, growing veggies, you get the idea. I miss having that space and spending time with Father doing those things. We live in a condo now, so there isn’t much opportunity to dig in the dirt and see the fruits of the labor so to speak.

When we got home from church yesterday, I had the need to just dig into some projects outside and get some things done. This last week has been kind of a roller coaster and I really just wanted to spend some time outside “doing”. So I took on the task of trimming back a large Bird of Paradise plant we have near our front door. It’s never been a big producer of flowers, it’s pretty overgrown and gangly so to speak. So I grabbed my gloves and my trimmers and got to work.

As I worked on that bush I found myself getting lost in time with Father. I trimmed and pulled the dead leaves and talked with God about so much. It took a while but the trimming was done, yes it was a major trim, but I think it will result in a much healthier plant. Ok, now that you have your latest gardening tip, sorry I digressed there. Anyway, I moved on to trim another plant, and then on to clean our little Weber grill.

I did something else yesterday, I made a conscious decision to step away from social media. As I made my way from project to project and spent time Lost with Father, I felt some of the heaviness I’d been feeling the last few days lift from my shoulders. I looked around all sweaty and dirty, to see the results of the few hours of work. It felt good to physically see the accomplishments. Little tasks yes, but time well spent for sure.

Friends, there will be times when the heaviness of this world will weigh us down. The challenges we face will seem daunting. The constant intrusion of social media can overwhelm us. These are the times to step away and get Lost with Father. We need those times when we can truly just be with Him, and strengthen the bond with Him.

These one-on-one times with God, strengthen and restore us. They make us stronger to fight another day against whatever satan is going to throw at us. So, take the time to reground yourself with Father. Take the time to clear your mind and let your heart be totally His. I think you’ll find a renewed spirit ready to take on what’s next.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who have been continuing to share information about Emily Rea. Thank you as well to everyone who continues to pray for her safe return. Please continue to lift your prayers for her family, for the hundreds of volunteers, and for the team of authorities who are working around the clock to find her. Father, hear our prayers. Thank you everyone so much!

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
