I guess most people who know me well would agree with the title of today’s little blog. I’m a bit old-fashioned I guess. I like simpler times when we weren’t so involved in technology, expensive coffee, and the latest food fads. I think families should be able to sit around the table each night for dinner, and not have to worry about running kids to sports practices or ball games. I wish kids would play outside on the weekend and not be glued to a video screen with the latest xbox game. I wonder if there will be a time again when friends can gather for dinner and not have a phone sitting next to them. You get the idea, maybe I’m old-fashioned.
Well yesterday, I experienced a little bit of that old-fashioned feel. Our annual fishing tournament at church brought families, young and old, from three to 83 (and a little older), to enjoy a day on the water. There was fishing and friends, saltwater and shelling, hot dogs and BBQ, oh, and the ice cream sandwiches π . It was a morning filled with families and friends being together to just enjoy the outdoors. The excitement in the eyes of the kids as they were called up to receive awards and prizes, it was just fun. The pictures shared with me of children catching fish, finding the most perfect shell, or looking at the dolphin in the water, yes they were priceless. The memories made for children and families at events like this, well those are priceless too.
It doesn’t have to be a fishing tournament or a day on the water that brings families and friends together. Just a simple Sunday dinner, or picnic out in the backyard on a Saturday afternoon, or building a snowman after that first winter’s snow can be even more memorable. I just feel like these times are the times that bring us closer to each other, and they bring us closer to Father. When we take deliberate time to step away from the crazy day-to-day schedules and responsibilities and make a point to be together, we are enriched in so many ways.
So yes, I may be a little old-fashioned, but maybe that’s what this world needs these days. Perhaps we just need to step back to some days when work was done more with our hands, and spending time together as a family was just what you did, well maybe there would be a little less stress in the world. Ya, I’m ok with the title “old fashioned”. Have a good day my friends, may it be filled with time with family and friends, oh and maybe even ice cream sandwiches π .
Continued prayers for Emily Rea. Father, we pray in Jesus name that you bring this sweet child home to her family. May you guide the rescuers to her and bring her home. Amen

So now faith, hope and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
