A friend of mine lost her brother yesterday. He went to be with Jesus. His last few weeks in this world, actually even longer than that, well they weren’t good. We’ve all probably known someone, or have experienced a situation ourselves, where a loved one is suffering as their time here is ending. In many ways, we see their passing from this world to the arms of Jesus as a blessing. It’s bittersweet, we are relieved that our loved one is no longer suffering and is with Jesus, but we’re so sad they are no longer with us.
My friend shared with everyone that this was a blessing, that she was ok and was at peace with his passing because he had been very ill. As I read her words though, my heart heard something different. I could feel her pain and her need to feel comfort. There are times when we need to truly listen with our hearts and not our ears. Listen and feel what others need when they are sharing with us.
We are all so busy in this life, the days fly by the responsibilities are heavy, and we barely have time to fit everything in each day. You know what friends, there is nothing more important than being there for a family member or friend when they need us, even when they don’t feel they do. It’s important to make time to reach out and listen. Pick up the phone and call, don’t text, better yet if possible, make time to be there in person and give a hug. The touch of another human being can heal so much.
Yes, we need to take time to listen with our heart, and then respond accordingly. Be there to share the comfort that Father gives us each day. You just never know the difference you will make in the lives of others.
Have a good day my friends, I’m off to make a phone call, and to listen with my heart.
Please friends continue to lift prayers for Emily Rea and all the rescue workers and volunteers. Father, please bring this child home to her family, in Jesus name.
