I’m old enough to remember the days when we didn’t have “self-serve” gas stations. Heck, they had different pumps for different gas, not just the push of a button on the front of the pump. If like me, you recall those days, you’d pull into the station and up to the appropriate pump. The attendant would come out and ask what you needed. I remember my mom would pop the car’s hood and ask the man to please check the oil, and then “Fill it up”. Newsflash, they would even clean your windshield, which if you got the right guy, it was awesome to watch them work π .
I thought about those days this morning as I was sitting with Father. Admittedly I got there in kind of a roundabout way. You see I was praying that Father would fill me with His holy spirit as I go about the day. I was asking that He “fill me up to the brim” with His love, that I might be more like Him. I want people to see Him at work in me, which is what most of us would like I think. So, you see, when I was asking Him to fill me up, I went back in time to those service station days, (told you I got there in a roundabout way).
I remember those days when retail businesses were service businesses, not the self-serve businesses of today. Well as much of a stretch as it might be, you know that was God at work. I mean I have vivid memories of those service attendants. My mom would go to the same station, and many times the same man would take care of what we needed. People would chat, you’d get to know someone, and there was a sense of pride in doing a good job and helping others, it’s just what you did.
In these days of self-service, (heck now when you go into some restaurants you have to place your order at a kiosk), I just feel we’re losing the connection with others. We’re losing the chance to serve and help others.
Well, I’ll continue to ask Father to “fill me up” so that I might share His love with others. I’ll continue to find ways to help and serve others each day. It’s what we are called to do. Today, I encourage you to do the same. Fill yourself with God’s love and then take the opportunity to share it, and make someone’s day a little brighter. When we do that, it’s funny, our day is a little brighter too.
Have a great day my friends π .
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
