Yesterday afternoon and into the evening many people on social media began posting this message:
On this day… 23 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift.
None of them saw past 10:00 a.m. Sept 11, 2001.
In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.
So many truths in this short message. September 11, 2001 was a day like no other in our history. I’m sure most of us remember where we were when we heard the news, when we saw the footage of those planes, when we saw the buildings fall. The message is simple, “Never Forget”. We should remember those who ran into the buildings to save people when others were running out for safety. We should remember the passengers aboard Flight 93 who banded together to make sure the plane did not hit its intended target.
This morning friend of mine posted another message. Friends, this is what we should be remembering:
The best way to honor those lost on 9/11 is to be the people we were on 9/12.
Yes, we should remember how this country, actually how this world stood united on 9/12/2001 and the days after. Father was in our midst through an incredible tragedy. His children were helping each other, and you know what, it didn’t matter if you were black, white, brown, or voted red or blue, were male or female, we were there for each other. God’s children doing what He called us to do, “Love one another as I have loved you”, we did just that in so many ways. Father calls us everyday to be the people we were on September 12th. We should remember that day as much, and dare I say maybe even more than we remember September 11th.
So friends, today I remember and say prayers for all those who were lost on 9/11/01 and for their families. I also pray that Father will instill in us His love and grace to be the people we were on 9/12/01.
As you go about your day today, try to be who you were on 9/12.
John 15:12
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
