Chocolate Chips and Father

I have a new team member that started in the office yesterday. I’m sure you all know how it goes, you are excited to have them however you have the challenge of training them while you know your inbox is filling and the boxes on your specific to-do list remain unchecked. It is what it is and we have to make our way through the process and know that once trained, the new addition to the team will be a blessing.

On Tuesday we have our weekly team meeting and this of course will be the first for our new team member. We’ll welcome her with some silly icebreaker, along with some tasty treats. I was going to stop at one of our local bakeries to pick up some goodies on the way home last night but instead decided to make a few things.

Once home, I changed and pulled out my trusty chocolate chip cookie recipe along with my KitchenAid mixer, (haven’t used it in like forever) and got to work. I realized I remembered the recipe by heart, even though I hadn’t baked in forever. As I made the dough, I thought about the simplicity of saying welcome with the personal touch of homemade treats. You show you care when you take the time to do it yourself.

I added the chocolate chips to the dough, scooped the balls onto my cookie sheet, and smiled as I placed the tray into the oven. It wasn’t long before these gems had the house filled with that wonderful cookie smell. After the hectic day, I have to admit the nice break to bake and do something for others, it felt good, and the cookie smell, well that helped too. For good measure, I dropped a pan of brownies into the oven and smiled again, knowing that they would be gone in short order during our meeting.

Sometimes friends when we take the time to do things for others we don’t realize that Father is doing something for us. He is helping us to grow stronger in our relationship with Him. He is showing us what it truly means to “love your neighbor as yourself”. And…at the end of the day, that is what this life is all about.

Have a great day everyone, may it be filled with opportunities to give a little of yourself, oh and may there be a chocolate chip cookies in there somewhere 🙂 .

Mark 12:31
The second is this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”. There is no other commandment greater than these.
