Do You Know Me?

We had dinner with some friends last night. We’ve known them for several years and we’ve shared about our lives before moving to Florida. We know what they do for a living, we know about their children, that kind of thing. Last night though, we had wonderful conversation, sharing even more about our backgrounds, growing up as kids, school, early years of marriage, etc.

It’s fascinating to me to learn the details of how people grew up and the things they’ve accomplished in their lives. All you have to do is ask simple questions and the information that comes forth is so interesting. You also learn that we are all more alike than we realize.

This morning as I sat down to write this little blog I found myself thinking about the time together with those friends how much we learned, and how it all started with just a simple question. It got me thinking about our relationship with Father, can’t it be just that simple? Can’t we just ask the simple questions when we want to know more about Him? Father, what am I to learn from this situation? Father, can you help heal the pain I feel? Father, how can I be more like you? Simple questions, but questions that allow us to learn so much more about Him.

At the end of the day, ya, we should know Him far better than we know any friends here on earth. The relationship we have with Him is the only relationship that will last literally forever.

God has blessed us with the gift of family and friends, and my goodness we all know how priceless those gifts are. However, He gave us one gift even more priceless, the gift of His Son. All He asks is that we get to know Him and live fully in Him.

Thank you Father for the gift of your Son and for the opportunity to get to know Him fully.

Have a great day friends!

p.s. Thanks to my brother Michael for yet another beautiful sunrise in the heartland, the cover of today’s little blog.

1 John 3:1
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
