The Train

The newest phone scans your face to let you access it. An ai types your messages as you speak. With the touch of a button, you’ve ordered, paid, and had your dinner delivered to your front door. You don’t carry cash because with just a touch of your phone on the pad at the restaurant your meal is paid. At home, that phone links to your “smart” TV. The two talk and with a simple command your favorite show is now playing, oh, and even better, you can binge-watch it for days and never leave your home.

Then something happens. A storm, some calling it a 1000-year event, tears through your little town, your county, your state, and even the state next door. The power lines are downed, and the cell towers giving you all of the one-touch options, they lie at the bottom of a mountain. In the dark, no communication. We’re here and yes it’s real.

Yesterday some of the most touching stories were seen. God’s children have come together in mass to help each other. How are they doing it, they are returning to the old ways. A mule train made its way to residents in Black Mountain. That’s right, riders on horseback guided the mules, loaded with supplies along the badly damaged road to help those so desperately in need. Companies are donating these supplies, and also donating feed for the animals. Huge thank you to Mountain Mule Packers.

A little later in the day, a man shared a photo of a family using a mirror and the sun to signal to planes that they are in their home and ok. That’s right, a good old-fashioned S.O.S. using a mirror and the sun, AND someone was able to actually understand the message.

We’ve found through this storm that your phone, your credit card, and your ability to have it all with the touch of a button, ummm… useless in an instant. Businesses could, well still can only take cash because they have no internet. Cars can’t travel on roads because, well, some aren’t even there.

Friends, we need to get back to what made our country so great. Using our hands, not relying on the convenience of one touch and we have it all. The “old ways”, were tried and true, and they built this nation. We’re finding now that those old ways, well, they are the only way in many cases that are working in the here and now.

We are God’s children, we are Americans, and we are coming together to help those who need it. It’s what we do. Our faith in God our Father, not our government is what is going to get us through. Stand strong, lean into Father, ask Him for strength and guidance, and together let’s help rebuild these communities. Continue to lift prayers, everyone, He hears them!

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
