Yesterday morning as we were leaving for work I headed downstairs to drop my backpack and purse into the car ahead of my husband. As I closed the trunk, I turned to see our neighbors heading back from their morning walk with their fur babies, my buddies Milton and Toby. I’ve shared how I’m kind of the surrogate aunt to these pups đ . Anyway, just as I saw them I remembered that I had treats upstairs from our annual blessing of the pets at church. I ran up and grabbed the cute little gifts and hurried back to deliver them, oh and of course grab some morning puppy kisses. It wasn’t much just something simple to let them know I was thinking about them.
My husband came downstairs and loaded his stuff into the car. As he was backing out, I looked up to see “Panda”, a sweet pomapoo walking her human, our neighbor from the other direction. Panda was happy to see me, and again I grabbed some puppy kisses, just another little gift to start the day.
Fast forward to the end of yesterday. I was wrapping up a few things and was making my way to our parish hall. Every Thursday evening we have a short service, followed by dinner and an educational offering. My phone rang and I noticed it was Panda’s “mom”. She asked what time we would be home and I mentioned I had an event I was stopping at, but would be heading home within the hour. She said she had baked something and would leave it at our door. Awww, I thanked her and looked forward to the surprise when I got home. She texted me not long after and mentioned that she had baked a pumpkin spice chocolate chip cake đ .
My husband and I arrived home a little while later and I beelined for the front door. Sure enough, there was a bag with the sweet treat inside. Upstairs I gingerly opened the package and the smell of the pumpkin was heavenly. Ahhhh, we both agreed it would be perfect for breakfast with a cup of coffee. Yes, it’s already sitting with my backpack this morning just waiting to be paired with that coffee đ . It was a little gift but so thoughtful and made my heart happy that she was thinking about us.
Friends, there are just so many little things we can do for people to brighten their day. It just takes a moment to stop and make the time to care. When we take that time, when we share a little bit of ourselves, however small the gift, we’re sharing Father’s love. That sharing, not only brightens the day of the receiver, but it brightens ours as well.
So, take a moment today to share a little bit of yourself, a little gift maybe, but you never know how big that gift might be to the person you’re sharing it with. Have a good day my friends.
1 Peter 4:10
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.
