Yesterday my husband and I attended the funeral of a parishioner who had become a friend over the past few years. Admittedly I’m closer to his daughter as I see her more frequently. George was 97 and lived such a wonderful life of service and faith.
Not long after meeting him years ago, we learned that George and his wife lived just an hour and a half from us back in Illinois. They attended the church where my brother-in-law was the music director for decades, and yes they knew each other well. My husband shared with his brother that George and his daughter were members of our church here in FL and he commented on fond memories.
As I sat through the funeral and listened to the homily about George and all he had done, I couldn’t help but be thankful for his life well lived. I was also reminded as our priest talked about George’s past back in Illinois, I was reminded just how close we all are to each other. It truly is a small world, and I think Father is showing us just how small it is, and just how close we, His children are to each other.
Friends, take some time to give thanks today for several things. First, our relationship with Father. Give thanks for your loved ones. Give thanks for our seniors and their commitment over so many years to make this country so great. Give thanks for the connection we all share. Finally, give thanks for this country, the freedoms we share, and the fact that this nation was founded with Father at the center.
Have a great day my friends, and please continue to lift prayers for those affected by the hurricanes, and please lift prayers for the return of sweet Emily Rea.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
