As I mentioned in this little blog yesterday, regardless of the outcome of the elections, I was pretty sure the sun would rise on a new day, and so it has.
There was something interesting about yesterday. Throughout the day of course people were posting on social media that they had voted. What I found interesting though was the number of people who said they had voted for the very first time. Our oldest called last night to say she had done that very thing.
This morning as I think about people who exercised a right for the first time, that many countries do not have, the right to vote for leadership, I give thanks to our forefathers. The founding of this nation, the writing of The Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence was a challenging time, to say the least. Many of our forefathers lost everything in trying to form this “little” nation, with God on the throne above it.
Our country is indeed different, it is special. It is forged with the blood of so many, and God the Father is at its core. The rights we are given by God are not changed when an election year comes around. May we remember that we are “endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.
This morning I offer this prayer for our nation:
Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Friends, let us keep our Lord in the center of not only this nation, but in the center of everything we do. We are His children, and He will never forsake us.
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
