Don’t Blink

I’ve mentioned in this little blog before how quickly time seems to be moving these days.  Like weren’t we just ringing in the new year, and here we are just weeks from Thanksgiving?  I don’t know about you but it seems like I’ve just walk into the office, then the next time I look up it’s 3:30 in the afternoon.  Yes, it seems like you just blink these days and time has evaporated.

The same holds true for the years and how quickly they seem to be going by. Twenty-one years ago I was fortunate to be present when our first grandchild was born. I had never seen anything so amazing and understood at that very moment the miracle that Father gave us in the birth of a child. He truly blessed us with Dakota Lynn, a true gift from God.

Today we celebrate all that she has become. She’s a spunky “kid”, (do they still use that word spunky?), with an incredibly huge heart. She’s a fierce protector of her little brother even though he knows just how to push her buttons. She loves animals, jeans and cowboy boots, country music, and pickup trucks. Before we knew it, we had blinked and she had become a beautiful young woman.

Dakota, this morning I offer the birthday prayer for you sweet “kid”.

Watch over thy child, O Lord, as her days increase; bless and guide her wherever she may be. Strengthen her when she stands; comfort her when discouraged or sorrowful; raise her up if she fall; and in her heart may thy peace which passeth understanding abide all the days of her life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Friends today I just ask that you help me wish our granddaughter Dakota a wonderful birthday.  God has blessed us immensely and we are forever grateful for this gift. Don’t blink my friends, before you know it your children and grandchildren will be grown. Enjoy every minute that Father gives us with them 🙂 .

p.s. Thanks to my friend Carrie Baum for the sunset picture from Marco last night, the cover of today’s little blog.

Psalm 127:3
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb, a reward.
