Through the Ages

Yesterday we celebrated the birthday of our granddaughter. I mentioned in this little blog that it’s crazy how quickly time is moving these days. I guess it’s true that the older we get the faster it goes. Oh, thank you by the way, for wishing my granddaughter a Happy Birthday 🙂 .

We had another celebration yesterday as well. At church, we hosted a 100th birthday party for one of our long-time parishioners. She was our associate organist for many years and is just a wonderful little lady. As she made her way into the parish hall with her long-time caregiver, the guests gave her a loud ovation. Mary smiled so big and did “fist bumps” in the air so happy to see everyone.

There were generations in the room, from little children to Mary, the 100-year-old matriarch of the family. It struck me at that moment as I looked around, that we are provided such an incredible gift of life.

I chatted with Mary for a few minutes, of course wishing her a happy birthday. She shared with me, “I wasn’t sure I’d make it”, as she told me about an aunt of hers that had lived to be 102. “Well you’ve got a few years to go before you pass that record then don’t you?”, I said grinning. She laughed and gave my hand a squeeze.

As I look back on yesterday, I think Father was showing me what we know as the circle of life. We celebrate all life, from infants to seniors and everyone in between. Life is so precious and I’m not going to begin to venture into why some live to be 100 and others are taken too soon. I just know that every life is priceless, and our Lord wants us to love everyone as He loved us.

It was an interesting day yesterday indeed. It’s not often that Father lays things out so clearly, but for me He did. It was almost as if He was saying to me, “Look at my children, young and old, give thanks for them and love them”. To that I say, I will do my best Father, and when I stumble, I just ask that you pick me up and point me back in the right direction. Open my heart Lord to do your work.

Have a great day my friends. Continued prayers for those recovering from the storms last month, and please lift prayers that the storm that is floating around out there is tossed out to sea. We’re pretty tired of this season 🙂 .

1 Peter 5:5
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
