Today I Give Thanks

As I mentioned yesterday, I want to devote this little blog this week to giving thanks for one thing each day. Yesterday I gave thanks for all of you and your support of this little blog πŸ™‚ .

Last night I stopped at the store on the way home from work. As I was walking in, I noticed shoppers coming out with loaded carts, it was a busy place for sure. I ran in quickly to pick up my one item and head back out. As I made my way to the car several people were headed into the store, they were looking at lists as they walked. Duh…it dawned on me, that everyone was doing their last-minute shopping for Thanksgiving. I thought to myself how years ago I was doing the same thing.

Today, I give thanks for the McQueen Rallies of the Clan. These were our Thanksgiving for many, many, many years. We would host the meal for children, siblings, nieces, and nephews, and over time it grew as families began to marry, and have children. We began to add friends as well who had no plans and would otherwise have been alone on Thanksgiving. We rearranged furniture to set up long tables to seat everyone, sometimes stretching the length of our home.

Every year I had fun finding new recipes for the classics, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and of course what tasty way could I make the bird. The house was filled with not just people, it was filled with laughter, stories, remember-whens, and most importantly love.

The Rallies of the Clan were actually weekend events, not limited to just Thanksgiving Day. On Friday there was Christmas shopping, and happy hour at our favorite watering hole, followed by our traditional pizza dinner. Saturday’s my sister-in-law hosted the annual family bonfire on the property where my husband grew up, (they purchased the woodlands that had so many childhood memories). Friends would join us as we spent the day hiking the woods, enjoying chili for lunch, telling stories by the fire, and playing more Remember When πŸ™‚ .

Yes, the McQueen Rallies of the Clan, they hold so many special memories for our family and we are so blessed to have them. So today, I give thanks to Father for the gift of those times and the wonderful memories we created. Thank you Father for the gift of togetherness.

As you make your way closer to Thanksgiving, I pray that you are planning to create special memories this year. Give thanks for the togetherness we share friends. Have a great day πŸ™‚ .

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!
