A few days ago I shared with you all that I broke a special Christmas ornament. I guess you could call it an heirloom of sorts, which I made as a child. You can read more about that in this little blog. I was not a happy camper on Sunday that is for sure.
Well, the fun continued Monday morning. As I sat down on our lanai, (bundled up I might add, it was freezing), I held my beaded cross. It’s similar to a rosary I guess you could say, but not made up of the same bead count. I’ve had it for many, many years and I always have it in my hands when I’m spending time with Father. Well, Monday morning I sat down and it literally broke in my hands. As you can imagine the little beads started rolling and I was scrambling just to keep them from rolling off the table. Fortunately, I found all of them and even more fortunate was that the chain stayed mostly intact.
I sat there for a moment and then just asked, “Lord, really? What is happening here? First my little angel, now this?”. I didn’t really hear a response to that question, at least at that point. I took the chain inside so as not to lose any more beads, and picked up a little wooden cross to hold. I finished my morning time with Jesus and went on about my day.
Fast forward to this morning. As I was sitting outside, again having my morning conversation with Father I felt something. I was thinking about the broken bead chain wondering what I was to learn from it. What I heard was, “It can be mended”. Well yes, it can I thought. Was the message I was to hear really that simple? God can mend all things regardless of how broken they are.
Friends, Advent is a time to reflect on the relationships in our lives. It’s a time for healing and mending. This includes the relationship we have with Father. Maybe we’re not as close to Him as we’d like to be. Maybe we feel like He has deserted us. Newsflash…Father NEVER leaves us. He truly can mend all things, including our hearts if we but open them fully to Him.
So, take the time these weeks approaching Christmas to spend more time with Him. Ask Him to help mend the brokenness where you feel it, because “It can be mended”.
Have a good day my friends, I’m off to find someone who enjoys beading and can fix my little chain 🙂 .
Matthew 19:26
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”.
