When God Says Rest

Sometimes God taps you on the shoulder and says “Slow down”. Yesterday was one of those days when he did just that. I was dragging for sure and finally just had to give in and say, “Ok, you win”. Hence no little blog post yesterday. I found myself napping most of the morning, something my body obviously needed and I’m feeling much better today.

Friends, we are all going full tilt most of the time, especially this time of the year when the holidays are approaching. We go non-stop until at some point our bodies say, “Helloooo, can I get a break here”. I know I need to do a better job of stepping away and relaxing regularly.

Father gave us these wonderful gifts called bodies. They house an even more wonderful gift, our souls. If we don’t take care of the “house” then the interior starts to fail as well. It’s important that we cherish these gifts by taking care of them.

Sometimes I think it’s easy to feel guilty for taking time to relax. We’ve got so much going on, work, family, friends, you don’t want to disappoint any of them. However, if we don’t give ourselves the chance to rest and rejuvenate then we won’t be any good to those commitments anyway.

So, I just encourage you, especially this Advent season, to build in time to rest and take a break. You will be glad that you did. Have a wonderful day my friends, and continued prayers for those struggling in Western North Carolina, and for sweet Emily Rea’s return.

Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
