Lessons from Painters

I was so excited yesterday. Our office repairs are almost completed following Hurricane Milton’s damage. The painters were in yesterday finishing the last painting, including my office.

This is the same small business that painted the church a few weeks ago and I really liked them then. It’s just one man maybe in his late 30s and his helper, a young woman maybe in her mid-20s. He comes and inspects the area(s) to be painted, and asks detailed questions to make sure he understands expectations. He is so pleasant and is very realistic in his timelines. You just feel comfortable with him and you trust that his little team will do an excellent job.

Well, when you see them work, you are even more trusting. They carefully put down drop clothes everywhere. The job they do in taping the floor and baseboards is immaculate. When they paint, there is not a drop anywhere. Maybe it’s weird to say, but there is a passion in their work, they love what they do, they want to do it right and they want the customer pleased with their final product. Well, we sure were!

Do I dare say, that Father is at work in this little company? Maybe a stretch? I don’t think so. I believe God uses people in many different ways, and at the end of the day, this little team of painters shows the love of Jesus in the work that they do. You see the joy in their work, and I believe that joy comes from Christ honing a talent within them.

You might be thinking, “Come on Kim, they are painters”. True, but I’ve worked with many painters in my life, and trust me their work, their attitude, their final product, ya, not good. They were doing a job. This couple yesterday, were helping others and enjoying their work and the passion they have. There is a noticeable difference.

Friends, regardless of what you do, regardless of what your passion is, just do it in service to Father. Whether you sew, bake, play music, manage an office, are a doctor, dentist, or school teacher, have God in the middle of what you do. Let your passion shine and the love of Father along with it.

He gives us many talents, share them, just like my two friends the painters.

Happy Saturday all, continued prayers for Western NC and for the return of sweet Emily Rea!
