A friend of mine sends me a scripture reading and reflection each morning. These last few weeks before Christmas, he has been focusing his reflections on the season of Advent, of course. They have been helping me to take time each morning, slow down just a bit, and truly reflect on the preparation for the coming of the baby Jesus.
On Saturday he sent scripture focusing on Mary. I realized as I was rereading it this morning, how much we focus on Jesus at this time of year. I mean I get it, Christmas is about His birth. However, there is a piece of the story that is pretty incredible, Mary being chosen by Father to carry His son. I can’t even imagine the way she must have felt when the Angel came to her to tell her what God wanted her to do. The incredible trust that Father had in her to give earthly life to His son. How do you deal with that kind of responsibility and trust placed in you? Well, Mary accepted it with grace and honor and did as she was asked.
Father chooses regular people like Mary, like you, like me, to do amazing things. He trusts us, His children, to carry out His mission. Like Mary, we need to accept His trust with grace and honor, and share His message and love with others.
This morning, I wanted to share Mary’s Song of Praise: The Magnificat, found in the book of Luke, verses 46-55. As you start your day, hear the beautiful words of Mary, the loving mother of baby Jesus.
46 And Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
53 he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
55 as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
Have a wonderful day my friends!
