Walking in the Past

Last night we went to a small holiday gathering at a friend’s home. Just a few friends enjoying a beverage, nosh, and some Christmas cheer. It was a lovely evening, the food was wonderful and the conversation was lively. We all shared our plans for Christmas and it was fun to hear how everyone would spend the upcoming days.

Our friend’s home was lovely as well and we enjoyed hearing about the various pieces of antique furniture she had. My husband loves hearing about the history of everything from furniture to cars, so he was in heaven hearing the stories my friend shared of the various items on display. At one point our friend ran to her bedroom to bring back a playbill from the 1930’s. She told us about her mother and her performance in that musical, showing us her picture on the front cover. It was a walk back in time and it was wonderful to hear the stories.

Yesterday I mentioned how was noticing so many people sharing their Christmas memories on social media. I just think it’s interesting that Father placed us in our friend’s home last night to hear even more memories. Maybe it’s a stretch but I can’t help but think that He is bringing these memories to the forefront. He is helping us to recall those simpler times when doing things like sewing and cooking meals wasn’t considered old times 🙂 .

I find it interesting when I look at my granddaughter’s Christmas list. She included things to continue working with her Cricut, a contraption that helps her delve into the world of crafting. She asked for an embroidery kit, yes I’m serious. She’s working with her hands and creating things, not parked in front of her phone on the latest gaming app. It’s wonderful to see and she’s developing skills she can use long term.
Yes, I think Father is moving and has us recalling simpler times for a reason. I think He wants us to not forget those simpler times when working for what we had was just what we did. Think about those people in Western North Carolina over the past few months. No cell service, no power, no water, they have had to go back to doing things the “old fashioned way”. Heck, they’re even using mule trains to get supplies where they need to go. What would have happened if those memories of how we used to do things were gone?

Friends, I can’t explain the feeling I’ve had over the past few weeks, but I do feel that Father is guiding His children in going back in time a little. I think He is encouraging us to remember and share. Maybe it will become clearer to me at some point, for now, it’s just a feeling I have, and putting it here in this little blog has helped.

Have a wonderful day my friends, thanks for letting me ramble a little this morning. Continued prayers for North Carolina and for the return of sweet Emily Rea.

p.s. Special thanks to my friend Joey Waves for the beautiful sunset picture from Naples last night.

Jeremiah 6:16
Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
