You know it really does. Prayer works. I think there are times when we feel our prayers are not being answered. We don’t see an instant response from Father so we assume He’s not listening or He’s choosing not to answer our prayer. Trust me, I’ve been there.
What I’ve learned over time though, especially as I dig deeper into reading the Bible, I’ve learned that our sense of time is not God’s. He kind of has this overall plan for His children and that plan, ya it runs on His schedule, not ours. He knows what we are going to do before we even do it. He knows what challenges we will face and He knows how He will handle them with us. So, our prayers are answered on His timeline. That doesn’t mean that I don’t continue to pray.
I’ve also learned that when I feel Father isn’t answering a prayer, um…that may very well be the answer. Sometimes what I pray for may not be part of God’s plan. It’s in those times when I’m questioning is He ever going to answer this prayer, that’s when I ask Him to guide me, “Is there something I’m to be learning from this situation”. Many times an answer will come and I’ll learn that I need to go in a different direction, that what I want is not what God wants.
Now, let’s talk about all those times when we see the results of our prayers quickly. Yesterday I came to you in this little blog and asked for prayers for a friend and his family member Mary who was terminally ill. I asked that you lift prayers for Mary, for peace and comfort as she begins her journey home with Jesus. Well, those prayers were answered. No more pain for Mary, only the light of Jesus and a reuniting with family that has gone before. Jesus escorted her home last night. Prayer works.
Friends, this life can be tough sometimes. We don’t always know why things happen. We can’t let that uncertainty prevent us from praying daily with Father. When we hurt, He does too, just like any parent. We may not see answers to prayer as quickly as we’d like, it’s OK, be patient and know that God is at work, we just need to trust in Him.
Thank you friends for your prayers for Mary. Please keep my friend in those prayers now too, as he grieves this loss. Continued prayers as well for Western, NC, for those in California, and for sweet Emily Rea that she may come home soon.
Mark 11:24
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
