This past week has been a week of just that, taking care of things. You know those tasks or chores that you kind of put off and don’t want to deal with?
We’ve been slowly getting our Sunday school rooms back in order following Hurricane Milton. It’s been a longer process because we’ve decided not to just put everything back the way it was, meaning standard drywall and vinyl tile floors. We are making flood resilience changes so that we are more equipped to handle those times when hurricanes bring the water. So, it’s required research of products, waiting those long lead times, then scheduling of installation, etc. It’s been a longer process than usual and quite honestly it drives me crazy. You all know me, I’ve got that ops brain and I would like things to get completed and be orderly.
Over the past few days, we’ve moved the kids’ furniture from the storage units and gotten it back into the kid’s rooms. Those few days, while very tiring, were very rewarding on many fronts. Let’s start with the moving company. This is the second time I’ve used them during our storm recovery. Ray the Mover, an awesome company from start to finish! Their movers, young (kids I would call them), with the absolute best attitude and most polite behavior. And…you know what, they were happy. They moved with efficiency, joked with each other, used “yes mam, no mam” verbiage with me, and said please and thank you. It was very refreshing and made the day go so well. They took care of things and made it easy for me!
Next, there were the volunteers who helped with getting the furniture wiped down and placed back in the rooms yesterday. A group of willing parishioners came and did. They took such care in making everything “just so”. It was like they were arranging their own children’s rooms at home. The love they showed in the work they did was wonderful. They too, took care of things and I’m very blessed to have their support.
While the classrooms were being arranged I dug in the tidy up the atrium area outside these rooms. Sweeping and wiping down tables, disposing of old things we no longer need. Tidying up the clutter so the space was more inviting, (as inviting as it can be in a construction zone basically). It’s been driving me crazy when I walk by it all and yesterday was the day to just dig in and make it look better. While we have a ways to go, it is indeed much better. Yes, it was time to take care of things, even though I wasn’t looking forward to it.
Friends, there are times when you have to do the things you don’t look forward to doing. There are times when you are going to have to take care of difficult things. You can choose to do those things with dread or you can dig in and ask Jesus to guide you through. As I watched the space come together over the past few days, I realized how much God was at work in the process. He knows there are difficult times in our lives and He knows that when we get on the other side of them, we are stronger and we are more equipped to handle what comes.
So friends, today, take some time to take care of those things you’ve been putting off. Ask Father to give you the motivation and the strength to do what needs to be done. Hey, it gives you time with Him as you work, and that is always a gift 🙂 .
Have a good day everyone, continued prayers for Western, NC who might see some more freezing weather this week, for California, and for our sweet Emily Rea.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
