Since my husband and I work at the same place, we have a pretty standard routine in the morning. I go to the gym, he works out at home. When I get home, I make lunches while he takes a shower, and we flip a coin for who will drive that day. When we get to work we both head to the Keurig for our morning coffee. One gets coffee and when finished sets up the cup for the other and hits the start button. Ya, it’s a routine but comfortable and works for us.
My husband is off today though, having some dental work done. I had to remind myself of that this morning as it changes things a bit of course. When I came back inside from my morning chat with Father, my husband was setting up the coffee pot, (as if it was a weekend). He said he was going to make a full post in case I wanted to take my travel mug with me. Ooooh, yes that sounds good. He then asked, “Do you want me to use the good stuff or the regular coffee?”. “The good stuff please”, I replied. We have some really good coffee from the roastery back home and we usually only use it on weekends. Ya, I’m looking forward to pouring that cup when I get home from the gym!
A few things came to mind as I sat down to write this little blog. First, routine is good. This is especially true when you are in a relationship with someone. Over time the routine makes you both comfortable. Think about that in the context of our relationship with our Lord. If we have a routine of talking with Him each day, over time we become comfortable and our relationship with Him grows stronger.
Next, the good stuff. I don’t just mean the great coffee I’m looking forward to, I mean life. There is good stuff all around us. A loving spouse, beautiful children, family, friends, and yes coffee. Father has blessed us with so many gifts, enjoy them. This morning, go ahead, use the good coffee, (or stop and buy one), give your spouse an extra hug, call your kid on the way to work, share a smile with a stranger. The good stuff friends, take a moment to give thanks to Him as you begin your day 🙂 .
