The Unexpected

Well, we never encounter it, the unexpected, I mean. Silly question, I know. It happens every day, and to some of us, probably multiple times a day. The unexpected happens, and we’re challenged (sometimes more intensely than others) to deal with what has happened.

Here’s a good example: Pensacola, Florida, saw over 6″ of snowfall yesterday, according to some reports. Now that is unexpected. For fun last night, we called our granddaughter back in Illinois to ask how much snow they received. She replied, “We didn’t get any. I was actually going to call you to see how much snow you got in Florida.” Now, isn’t that a crazy statement!

As I looked at pictures this morning of Floridians taking in the very rare snow event, I thought about the unexpected and how we deal with things. I guess it depends on what curveball has been tossed your way. For instance, the kids in Pensacola were probably happy to have the unexpected snow day, especially given that some had never seen it before. However, there are others in the state, citrus grove owners for instance who are not so excited about the snow or ice they are seeing. Their livelihood depends on non-snow related weather I’m guessing.

Yes there are unexpected things that get tossed at us daily and I get that depending on your situation and how you are impacted drives how you will respond. However, I think if we have that unbreakable relationship with Father and His Son, we tackle whatever “unexpecteds” come, with strength and confidence and without fear.

It’s life, and there are going to be things out of our control that happen. Little newsflash, we are not in control, that falls to our Lord. So regardless of what we’re going through, we have to stand firm in knowing that Jesus is with us in all our trials. He will never leave us. Another little newsflash, He wants us to seek Him when facing those unexpected things. We need to stop trying to do it alone, (she says talking to herself).

So friends, whatever you’re facing today, know that you are not alone. Father’s got this, lean into Him and let him help you through.

Have a wonderful day friends, and happy snow day to those in Northern Florida, I sure didn’t think I’d ever say that 🙂 .

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
