Over the past week or so, I’ve been sharing my experiences with some young adults in our community. Some experiences have been good, some not-so-good, with the good, I believe, outweighing the not-so-good. Well, Father keeps bringing youngsters into our path. Let me explain.
As I’ve shared, my husband and I are staying in a rental home for the next few weeks while our house is having some remodeling done. On Saturday evening we were sitting on the lanai enjoying a beverage before dinner. The next-door neighbor has a small dog that began to bark when it heard us come outside. We then noticed a young girl, maybe three years old, riding her big wheel around their lanai. I mean she owned that thing and was whipping around like a pro. All the while she was just chatting up a storm, maybe talking to the pooch, maybe just to herself, at any rate, she was chit-chatting away. My husband and I laughed at how adorable she was, and very skilled for what we thought was her age.
Well, yesterday morning we headed out to church, a little earlier than usual because we’re a little farther away. We pulled out of the drive and headed down the street and around the corner. Just then I noticed a little girl, yes our next-door neighbor on the sidewalk, on a scooter, in her PJs. She was all by herself. I looked around and yep, she was by her lonesome. We pulled up and stopped and I rolled the window down and asked her where her mom and dad were. To which she replied in her adorable little voice, (I’m gonna try and imitate her here), “My gwranma is walking round da block and I can’t find her”. She began to move forward on her scooter again. We pulled up further and I said, “Maybe we should take you back home, and let’s see if she’s there”. She again explained that grandma was walking around the block.
At this point, my husband told me to get out and begin walking her home and he would follow in the car. So I got out and encouraged her to show me where she lived. She turned her scooter around and off we went. I told her I thought she lived next to us. As we were walking a white car pulled out of a driveway and I asked the little one if that was her grandmother. “No, our car isn’t dat color”. I could not believe how smart this little one was!
I looked up again and saw a woman standing on the sidewalk. I asked the little one if that was her grandmother. “We’re going for a walk round da block”. And she high-tailed it even faster on her scooter. As I got close to the grandmother she called out, “Why did you go out the front door!”. I told her what the little one had said about going around the block. “Well, we were supposed to take a walk, I went to her room to get her shoes, and when I came back she was gone”. She thanked me profusely for bringing her back, and I told her no problem. The little one was already putting her shoes on and getting ready for that walk π .
Yes, I think Father keeps showing me how precious the little ones are. This child, well she is going to be a leader someday, that is for sure. She is smart as a whip and she is pretty darn independent already! Just an incredible gift that the Lord has blessed the world with.
Just a fun little story this morning friends. The gift of life, my goodness how precious.
Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven”.
