The Little Ones

It’s hard to believe but we are still doing some restoration work following Hurricane Milton last year. The delay has been the result of improvements we are making to improve the flood resiliency of our campus. For instance, replacing standard drywall, trim, and baseboards with PVC or essentially plastic versions. This allows us to remove the drywall, wash everything, dry it out, and put it all back in place. All of this restoration takes time though and as you can guess, we’re not the only ones doing it so, supplies are backordered.

We’ve gotten our Sunday school rooms back to temporary states until after the season. We’ll do the final restore early this summer when the programming year ends. Our nursery was the last room needing attention, to make it usable for the rest of the season. On Thursday a friend helped me move the kid’s furniture back into place which was such a huge help!

Yesterday I spent the day in the nursery. Bucket, vacuum, and rags in hand I felt a call to just put in the elbow grease and make the room inviting. I turned on one of my favorite playlists and made my way around the room. Wiping down furniture, little tables and chairs, the changing table, the little kitchen set. I vacuumed everywhere and mopped. I even put together the fun foam puzzle flooring for a cozy corner. As I moved about the room I thought about all the little ones that spend time in this space. I thought about the innocence and wonder in their eyes as they play with the toys, rock on the horse or lamb, or read books with the volunteers. I thanked Father many times for the gift of the little ones.

I laid down the area rugs and gave them a thorough vacuum, the final touch. I looked around and realized how inviting it did look, even though there are some obvious signs that it’s temporary, (still waiting on the cabinet where the sink should be for instance, as the pipes are hidden by a strategically placed bookcase). I thought about the children getting back into this space and the sounds of little ones moving about. I smiled and thanked Father again for the little ones.

I pray that Jesus will be present in this room next Sunday when it’s filled with the joy and laughter of His most precious gift to us.

Today friends, give thanks for the little ones in your life. Children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or give thanks for the neighbor kids! They are the most precious gift we will ever be given, besides the gift of Jesus of course. The little ones are our future and our job is to love, nurture, and protect them. May we answer that call.

Have a great day friends 🙂 .

p.s. Special thanks to my friend Cookie Coleman for the beautiful sunrise picture from Naples, the cover of today’s little blog!

Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
