Power of Relationship

Over the weekend a friend posted a great picture on social media. He had gotten together with co-workers from years ago and it was a group picture of them looking very much like they did back then, (well maybe a little more gray hair). All three of the guys were past co-workers of mine from many, many years ago. They had all met for lunch and to catch up. Just seeing the picture brought back memories of those “old days”. It reminded me of relationships, a community built within our organization. Even though we were in two buildings, with almost 400 employees, we were a tight group. Eventually, we consolidated into one new facility, and the community and relationships, they grew even stronger. Yes, seeing that one picture brought the memories of those times back to mind so vividly.

Last night I contacted a friend I hadn’t spoken to in over a year. He was on my mind and ya, it was pretty simple to just pull up his number and punch the call button. He didn’t answer and I figured he was just wrapping up his day at the office. He called me right back though and almost instantly we picked up talking like it was yesterday. In our short conversation, we caught up on the latest in our lives, laughed about silly things and also played a little remember when. I hung up smiling thinking about how Father has blessed me with relationships in my life.

This morning as I thought about about my friends and the relationships built over the years I thought about Jesus and my relationship with Him. Just like my call last night where my friend and I talked like it was yesterday, that’s the kind of relationship Jesus wants with me. He wants me to chat with Him like it was yesterday. He wants to be my best friend, the one I turn to in need. He wants me to feel the strength that being in relationship can provide.

We were not meant to be alone in this life. Father saw that early on, giving Adam a partner to share his life with. We are creatures needing companionship, relationships, and community. The healing power that comes from being with others, it’s pretty amazing. And…guess what, the relationship we have with Jesus, well it’s never-ending 🙂 .

Friends, give thanks today for the relationships in your life. We’re blessed to have them. More importantly, think about those you might know who aren’t as blessed, maybe are alone. Take a moment to reach out to them, let them know that you are thinking about them and they aren’t alone. Let the love of Father flow through you to them so that they may experience the feeling of relationship. It’s a powerful thing 🙂 .

Have a good day friends!

Genesis 2:18
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
